big matches in round one šæ
early losers in RG qualifying š
does Djokovic have a shot at RG?
all the retirements I canāt keep track of!
But firstā¦

Round 1 is a blockbusterā¦
ā¦who was in charge of this draw??
Nadal vs Zverev š®

The big news of the week was this matchup which is set to happen on Monday. This is the first time the two have played since the 2022 RG semis, where Zverev had his big ankle injury. I guess it can only get better this time for Zverev!
FYI ā Nadal has clarified that this might be his last RG, leaving us Rafa fans crossing our fingers for next year š¤
Murray vs Wawrinka ā¤ļø
Two legends of the game and fan favourites met in round 1, with Stan coming out on top 6-4, 6-4, 6-2. Sad that these two had to meet so early on, but how nice to see them playing each other again!
Heartbreak in Qualifying
Poor Thiem was out in round 2 of qualifying, losing 6-2, 7-5 to Virtanen. So close, but not quite enough for Domi to reach the main round in his last ever RG.

Round 2 was also a tough pill to swallow for Schwartzman who lost in a tight 3rd set tiebreak to Halys. The former world no. 8 fell just short for his last RG appearance.
Even the first seed in qualifying, former world no. 17 Cristian Garin fell in round 1 of qualifying. Lots of action already at RG!
Does Djokovic have a shot at RG?
Novak has been unusually shaky lately, losing on clay to pretty random players (Tabilo and Machac). Can he pull it together in time for RG?
First up heās got Pierre-Hugues Herbert, a multi-grand slam winner in doubles. After that he may face Cerundolo or Paul, Ruud or Fritz, Medvedev or Rune (or Nadal), then Alcaraz or Sinner in the final. It wonāt be an easy trip to get there!
My guess is an early exit from Djokerā¦but if anyone is going to pull off a big win in the face of adversity, it is him! After all, a 25th grand slam is on the line.
So many retirementsā¦š¢
Speaking of Thiem and Schwartzmanā¦.there are SO many great players who retired this year or who are on the cusp of retirement.
Cornet
The Frenchwoman will be retiring after RG in front of her home crowd. She plays Zheng in the first round on Tuesday.
Collins
Danielle announced that she will be retiring at the end of the 2024 season. It seems a shame after her recent wins in Miami and Charleston, but it seems Collins is ready to take a break from constant travel and the tour life (understandable!).
Muguruza
Garbine called it quits in April after a stellar career which include the world no. 1 ranking, as well as Roland Garros, Wimbledon and WTA Finals trophies.
Giorgi
Only a few weeks ago, the Italian announced her retirement from tennis. She reached a career high ranking of 26, with her biggest win at the WTA-1000 event in Montreal in 2021.
